The Freetown City Council (FCC) shows its dedication to protecting human health and the environment by having this campaign under the umbrella of its Transform Freetown initiative. Under the #FreetownTheTreeTown campaign, the city hopes to plant a total of 1 million trees in Freetown (Sierra Leone’s capital) in 2020.
The #FreetownTreeTown t-shirts depict the Freetown landmark, The Cotton Tree, pictured with a city scape below and the text (Freetown The TreeTown) around it.
Freetown’s Cotton Tree is a historic tree dating back to March 11, 1792 when resettled Africans prayed and celebrated their newfound freedom in Freetown after returning from enslavement in the Americas, Caribbean and Britain.
